Chromatography Classical Silica Adsorbents Scientific Adsorbents, Inc. offers a great number of well defined particle cuts of 60 Angstrom Silicas. SAIs Silica displays all the advantages of an irregularly shaped adsorbent with its wide field of application. As all these cuts stem from the identical starting material, it is easy to switch from one cut to the other, hence having an easy way to adapt the chromatographic technique to the individual separation problem. Closely controlled properties, especially freedom from too fine and too coarse particles are extremely important for the optimization of column permeability and the highest number of obtainable plates per column length. In addition to the above types, SAI produces Active Silicas. These materials exhibit a well defined high initial activity. They are well suited to separate non-polar substances in non-polar solvent systems. The purification of solvents especially for chromatographic purposes is another application. The standardized initial activities of these types of silica can be lowered introducing additional reliability into silica gel chromatography. Silica Gels for preparative and classic column chromatography are used for the chromatographic separation of synthetic and natural substances. They have their field of application in both adsorption and in partition chromatography (also with reversed phases.) Partition chromatography allows a high protection of the sample. This fact is of great importance for mixtures of unknown composition.
